OUTLINE OF COURSE CONTENT:

Class 1 :   Introduction to structures and functions of Family Health
                 (Lecture  1hour)
                        - Maternal and Child Health
                        - Women and Men’s Health
                        - Adolescent Health
                        - Health of Individuals with special needs
                        - Health of Older Persons

Class 2 :    Influences and Roles of Family Health on health status and disease
                  pattern of  individuals, family and community.Development  and
                  issues of Family Health in Malaysia and worldwide
           ( Lecture 1 hour)
                  a) The development, role and functions of the existing services and
    facilities in meeting the changing trends in needs and demands of
    family and community.
      b) Issues and challenges; primary health care services; policy
           responses, health care delivery issues, holistic care; taboos and
           cultural influences in Family Health.
.                 c)  The development of expanded scope of Family Health
                       services in Primary Health Care context.
       d) Discuss the importance of healthy family nutrition
                   e) Identify barriers to implementation of healthy family nutrition.
 
                 Maternal and Child Health (SCL 1hour)

        a) Development, scope and objectives of maternal  and child
    health services in Malaysia.
  b) Maternal and child health services and requirements at a 
            primary, secondary and tertiary care provided by public, private
            sectors and the non-governmental organizations.

Class 3:   Family Health Servies provided by public, private sectors and non-
                governmental organizations (Lecture 1 hour)
                      - concepts and principles of Family Health Care
                      - Organization at ministerial, state, district and clinic level
                      - Policies, programs, strategies and activities of Family Health Care
                Women’s and Men’s Health, Adolescent Health (SCL 2 hour)

Class 4      Adolescent Health (L & SCL 3 hour)
                  a)   The growth pattern of the adolescent
                  b)   Morbidity patterns and health-related problems
                  c)   Development and issues in health care of Adolescent in Malaysia
                        and worldwide. Nutritional components. 

Class 5      Health care of the Older Persons and individuals with special needs
                  (L& SCL 2 hour)
a)    Definition of Impairment, Disability and Handicap and their common causes.  
b)    Preventive measures  and rehabilitation of impairment, disability and handicap
c)    The sociological implications of increasing population of
           older people
      d)  The physiological changes with age, changes in disease
                       prevalence, socio-economic problems and possible solutions in
                       dealing with care of the elderly population
      e)  Analysis and comparing  the existing health and social services for
          older persons and individuals with special needs between
          developed and developing countries.
